The Zenithink ZT-180 is a "Tablet" computer that operates on Google's Android system (version 2.2). This can be the same operating system that's used on many so known as "smart phones".

The ZT-180 resembles an Apple iPad but the screen may be a little narrower - not a bad thing in itself as the ZT-180's screen size - width vs length - ratio is better suited to movie format viewing than Apple's iPad.

It sells for about 1/3 the price of an iPad (retail Montreal price of the least expensive iPad). Of course, it's not an iPad. The scrolling is less smooth, the resistive touch screen not as responsive (or sometimes too sensitive - very annoying), etc. However it does afford the chance to try out a pad computer type device on the cheap. This can be a major advantage.

Firmware upgrades for the ZT-180 are accessible and they have typically helped improve the device's responsiveness. The firmware upgrades have additionally added the Android Market app, something that earlier versions didn't have shipped from the factory. So, if you receive an earlier production model, you'll be able to upgrade it yourself.

The device sports a mini USB port as well as one for a micro SD card. Such ports aren't available on the iPad. Wi-Fi is a simple connect and works fine.

The tablet runs a reasonably basic version of Android 2.2 (FroYo). This suggests you will run into some annoyances if you want to do stuff like videocalls, because this device has a front facing camera, and supposedly, FroYo does not support it.

Well, I am able to use it, no problem. But, it is only after two full days of tinkering, searching for a CUSTOM version of Skype that might make it work. Also, and following this same line, Netflix for Froyo here in Canada, with streaming, isn't officially supported (as are several different applications, most of that have excellent substitutes offered in the market anyway).

However, if you're a little nerdy and have the patience for it, you'll find the APK for Netflix which will permit you to watch movies on this (and many others) device.

For a medium user, this tablet is more than powerful, it is well designed, looks stunning, it has many storage, and it is cheap. However, you might need to be a little nerdy to get stuff like videocalling and Netflix streaming to work, with many patience and (very careful) tinkering.
